Preview of Inventor IDE Alpha 5

It’s getting close, I promise.  It’s been the biggest change yet for this version, and set back development on Own OS a couple of  months, but here’s a screenshot of the unstable version of Inventor IDE version alpha 5.

Yes, your eyes do not deceive you.  There is no menu, and there is a Run button.  The find buttons won’t work until alpha 6, but if all goes well, you should be able to download Inventor IDE, extract it, start it, and just hit Run.  It won’t depend on MASM anymore; it assembles the code on its own.  This was a ridiculous amount of work, but the great simplicity of just being able to press Run with no configuration of external programs is well worth it.

I’ll also be updating the sample project to be much more useful for the video tutorials, displaying the input and output images instead of making you look for them all the time.

Alpha 6 will be a much smaller change, so it won’t take nearly as long (I hope).  At that point, it’ll be just about beta time!  🙂

  1. Count me in for beta.

  2. When did the alpha start? We can almost start a timeline of important events that occured during the development of alpha 5… In any case, looks cool 😛
